Buckwheat vs. Toilet Paper

Buckwheat vs. Toilet Paper

Today I prepared a new dish for lunch: that rare stuff known in Russian as “Greek groats”. Fried with mushrooms. Well, it is not Greek, of course. I’m kidding.

The product that is the first to disappear from Russian stores in any emergency is buckwheat. The Russian name is “grechka” which sounds like Greek to me… I don’t know why that happens. It’s the same enigma wrapped in a mystery as the reason why would the Americans and Europeans stock up on toilet paper when a disaster strikes.

There is one lingering thought, however, in the Russian corner of my twisted cosmopolitan mind that food is more important than toilet paper. No food – no need for toilet paper. Seems legit, no?

By the way, the buckwheat is back in stores, at least, in Moscow. And toilet paper never disappeared.
